VacationGood morning.
Is it the beginning of the end for social media?  In some ways, perhaps.  Many of the big players could be swept up in potential antitrust legislation aimed at breaking up big tech.
And, as former President Donald Trump stated in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, social media has taken the place as radio, broadcast television, and even town halls in terms of how many connect for political speech.
The points are well-taken, but considering the messenger, it’s more likely that, for now, any changes to social media will come from increased regulation of big tech overall.  The former president may have been banned from nearly all current social media platforms, but he’s already been working on one of his own, as well as maintaining a presence on smaller platforms with a high commitment to the freedom of speech.  That’s less of an end, and more of a new beginning.

Now here’s the rest of the news:

Better Every Day...Good morning.
The market finished last week on a high note as Gilead’s remde sivir trial data appeared to lift the spirits of aging bulls.  While not a vaccine, the ability to treat patients and lessen the impact helps limit the stress on hospitals and will continue to lower the fatality rate.  This is good news for the areas most greatly impacted by restrictions.

Now here’s the rest of the news:

Power Surge
Perhaps more than ever, the stock market appears to be in the grips of FOMO, or “fear of missing out.”  Especially among institutional money managers, there is safety in numbers.  As long as everyone agrees to buy the same stocks, share prices can only go up.
Similar to Novavax, Tesla‘s surge in popularity is a result of the coronavirus pandemic.  Institutional investors have to put their money somewhere and COVID-19 threatens to put a lot of companies out of business.

June Spending Deficit Tops All of FY2018 (And It Gets Worse)
At nearly $1 trillion per year, the deficit in recent years was already astronomical by any measure.
But now that it’s set to surge by absurd 276% versus the previous year, it’s time to assess the ramifications that are soon to hit home for too many Americans.

Stocks Are Up, But So Is Gold – And Analysts Say the Metal’s Rally is Just Getting Started
“The Federal Reserve and central banks around the world just keep printing money… And so, gold is going to take out the old highs, $1,950 or something, and it is going to keep going.” –Jim Wyckoff

Do you know exactly what you want to do but somehow still can’t figure out the execution bit?

Are you waiting to get all your ducks in a row before you can present your idea to the world?

Do you believe that inspiration will help you create the perfect idea and land you your next big break?

Read on below for an important lesson from NIKE and Dale Carnegie.

“Start NOW: Action will create the inspiration you seek”

You know how sometimes you’re not really in the mood to do something until it starts and suddenly it’s great and you’re glad you pushed yourself?

    • the meet-up you didn’t want to attend but ended up enjoying and even offering to help organize the next one
    • the workout session that took all your willpower to begin but left you feeling more energized in the end
    • the healthy recipe you tried to humor your best friend that helped spark ideas on how you can improve your own diet

The thing is, we never really know how we will feel when we do something until we actually do it, and this gap in knowledge oftentimes gets in the way of our progress, especially if it’s something new, or something difficult.

Super Saturday!  😉

Beautiful British Columbia

Before we forget … Caryl and I had a wonderful breakfast, and … checked out our next year’s Kimberly accommodation.  Alpenglow Bed and Breakfast … tell Anja … we sent you!  (info@alpenglowbb.com)

Today though, back home!  [Calgary]

We decided to travel through the Crowsnest Pass as we haven’t gone this way for a long time!  Caryl wants to pick up a few gardening items when we get to Midnapore — and it will be Rush Hour around that time too!

Do You Have A Purpose? It’s true that in order to live our purpose in this world, we’ve got to have a vision and a plan for achieving our dreams.  We must be tenacious in working toward our goals, and we might occasionally have to sacrifice a little sleep for that dream.  However, our “hustle at any cost” culture has convinced us that this means choosing between success and quality of life (e.g. health, happiness and fulfillment).  This either/or mindset is not just inaccurate — it actually threatens our bottom lines and secretly sabotages success. The stress, exhaustion and decision

Good morning. Shortages or not, we’ve all seen rising prices on store shelves as a sign of inflation.  In some cases, prices have stayed the same, but the size of a package has shrunk.  This is a way to mask higher prices through a process known as shrinkflation.  But there are other ways to note the bite of higher price as well.  One such way?  The loss of amenities. For example, many hotels are now ditching their complimentary breakfasts.  While such food wasn’t necessarily good, it was a way to entice travelers to stay at a low additional cost.  With

Good morning. We’ve noted a few times over the past few months to get that holiday shopping done extra early this year thanks to supply chain disruptions.  But given some of the latest delays and reports from companies reporting earnings this year, the next thing on your holiday shopping list just might be groceries. While we’re not seeing the toilet paper shortage of last year, shortages in chicken, fish sticks, coffee among other food staples appear likely in the coming weeks.  And products such as diapers are seeing high demand right now as well.  Even if those shortages are resolved,

Good morning. The stock market has a number of seasonal patterns to it.  While it’s well-known that stocks tend to rally into the end of the year, in what’s known as the “Santa Claus” rally, that rally tends to start earlier than many expect.  This year, the start date is likely the first day of November, less than two weeks away. Why?  Because right now we’re in the midst of earnings season, when company insiders are locked out from buying or selling shares.  Companies are also in a lockout period for share buybacks.  And it’s those buybacks that have been

Good morning. Bull markets end on euphoria, but not until they’ve gone on far longer than many expect.  That seems to be the case in the commodity markets right now.  While traders are still considering that the price of a barrel of oil may hit $100, some are starting to bet that will just be a stop along the way to $200 per barrel, which would be a new all-time high for the commodity. And thanks to the recent uranium rally, a new fund that will hold physical uranium has been announced to take advantage of that move.  The announcement
