March '22 NegotiationGood morning.
Investing during a times of crisis can mean starting a small position as a hedge against an extreme event.  Case in point, some investors have turned to gold in recent weeks, as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is the classic example of a geopolitical risk that can be good for the price of the metal in the short-term.  Others have gotten into Bitcoin, which promises a further disconnect from the current global financial system and fiat currencies in general today.
These moves partially reflect the fear that the current market pullback could be the start of something bigger, potentially even the end of today’s financial system.  There’s always some systemic risk in any system, especially one that needs a lot of top-down interventions by central banks or governments.
Chances are the transition away from the status quo won’t be as pronounced as many think.  Be prepared for extreme events – but don’t over prepare.

Your OrderGood morning.
The stock market volatility in recent weeks has left the stock market still near all-time highs.  But with some large daily swings, and with tech stocks down much more on average, the sentiment is still somewhat bearish.
Overall, that points to a slowing of the longer-term market rally, not the end of it.  Some of the big speculation in tech in the first few weeks of the year has taken a pause.  That’s normal in a bull market.  As a result, investors and traders alike should look for short-term fears as a buying opportunity, particularly in fast-growing tech plays.

How have you shifted your trading strategy in today’s choppy markets?

Our EXAMPLESHIP creates our legacy

Brian Carruthers wrote this article … and I couldn’t be more proud to share it with you and your family today!

I’m teaching Colton before he’s 2 about 10X Mindset.  This kid is OBSESSED so I doubt he’ll ever be average. #beobsessedorbeaverage #10x (Grant Cardone’s book The 10X Rule)

People question if I’m legit all the time.  They say “If you really made $20M+ then why are you still building and working??”

I tell them I’ve barely even started to scratch the surface of my potential.  And my mission is bigger than just me.  And I tell them that if I got lazy now and slowed down, I’d be teaching my little kids the wrong lessons of work ethicambition, and going for it in life.  I want them to find their passion and get attention on it.  Build their empires on it.  #buildinganempire

Money is only a part of the overall picture.  Net worth is just a measuring stick for how much value you’ve brought to the marketplace.  IMPACT IS EVERYTHING.  I want to make the world a better place.  I want to teach my kids to do the same.

Let’s all know and remember … our AMBITION sets the tone for those around us.  The greatest gift we can give our kids is not monetary inheritance.  It’s mindset  and attitude and ambition and work ethic.

If we are lazy, if we are not going for it with urgency each day CONSISTENTLY, not only do we not accomplish big goals and create big success for ourselves, but our playing small adversely affects everyone we care about.  Our EXAMPLESHIP creates our legacy … good or bad, big or small.  You can’t tell your kids they can accomplish anything they want in life while you’re playing small and not accomplishing much.  They will look at you as either a hypocrite or as someone just blowing hot air that they don’t even think you believe yourself.

Many parents think spending tons of time with their kids is most important.  I feel that a balance is crucial — your kids need to see you hustling and winning, and having SOME time when you can just chill with them.  But it is GOOD FOR THEM to miss you, and see that you are doing important things in life.  That teaches them ambition, purpose, and real life skills.  Yes, kids spell LOVE as T-I-M-E.   I totally agree.  They want you there a lot, but they NEED you to go be a winner example for them as well.  Again, it’s a balancing act.

So I choose the 10X mindset.  I am building empires with people, impacting lives all over the world, helping all those people become heroes and great examples for their kids.  My three boys will know their Dad as someone who had impact.  Yes, I made crazy amounts of money as well.  But it’s the impact they witnessed that will serve them well in their futures.

Go 10X your life.  Do it for you, do it for your family, do it to leave your mark.  😉

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday … Happy Birthday … Happy Birthday to me!

Yes, today is my birthday anniversary.  I have lots to be grateful for … the off work today is one of them.  Chilled out for the day!  Pre-paid for my flight from Halifax, NS to Saint John’s, NF later this September.

Also booked my accommodations for Saint John’s, hoping to see the “Jelly Bean Row” houses, the Cape Spear Lighthouse, and the place where Marconi sent the first wireless trans-atlantic communication, Signal Hill.  Plan to a lot of Geocaching in and around St. John’s. [I’m excited…]

Today “small town” in Newfoundland is… Salt Harbour. May 15, 2021 Struggling … how to break bad habits? “Nothing is impossible.  The word itself say, ‘I’m possible.’” –Audrey Hepburn There’s no one single reason why we struggle — to break bad habits, achieve our goals, or excel in our desired domain — but more often than not, the biggest challenge is sitting between your two ears. Yes, your mind is incredibly powerful, and quite frankly, it’s a double-edge sword.  The stories you tell yourself, the things you believe about yourself, and the way you talk to yourself can either be

Today! May 14, 2021 Good morning. One year ago, oil prices went negative as traders feared that the pandemic would lead to prolonged drops in oil use and got caught in trades they couldn’t get out of.  Today, oil and gasoline prices have held up well in inventory reports.  However, supply issues remain in the South and up and down the East Coast, even as Colonial pipeline paid a $5 million ransom to the hackers who shut down their system.  A number of states have declared emergencies as supplies have run low. It just goes to show that oil, one

Good morning. Meme stocks are back!  Well, sort of. A spike in companies like AMC Entertainment (AMC) and GameStop (GME) occurred yesterday.  GameStop was even halted multiple times on the way up (but not on the way down).  Oddly, this may be an early sign that markets are looking for a short-term bottom, given the sharp reversals higher. On CNBC, analyst Jim Cramer came out against the traders of meme stocks using sites like Reddit’s Wall Street Bets, to find the meme stock opportunities in the first place.  Tough words for someone whose television show features sound effects.  But for

Good morning. The good news?  Inflation has slightly slowed on a year-over-year basis, for the first time in seven months.  The bad news?  It’s still high at 8.3 percent.  And it came in higher than expectations. Looking at the data shows some reasons for the unexpected strength.  Most components of CPI still rose more than 6 percent in April.  But soaring food prices – which we’ve warned about fairly often — were a big contributor.  Another big move higher was record airfare prices, as high fuel costs and a reopened economy drove prices up. The data doesn’t give too much

Good morning. Typically, growth stocks lead the market.  That’s because these companies have the ability to scale up rapidly, and one of the best signs of a stock heading higher over the long haul is increased earnings. Yet every few years, value stocks have their time to shine.  A year ago, Warren Buffett’s performance as being derided.  Yet he’s buying stocks now.  In contrast, Ark Innovation, the hypergrowth fund managed by Cathie Wood, is now not just down relative to Buffett — but it’s underperforming the S&P 500 since its inception. Can these trends reverse in time?  Yes.  Will they

05-MAY 10-2022

Good morning. Any econ 101 student can tell you that there’s a lag effect between something like, say, the creation of trillions of dollars in spending, and inflation rates reflecting that.  We’re seeing that trend play out today, with the highest inflation levels in decades. The good news?  Some of that new money first went to financial markets, rather than in goods and services.  That helped keep many things affordable, especially during the initial lockdown phase of the pandemic.  But today, we’re seeing the impacts of those past lockdowns (and current ones).  And we’re seeing that handing out money directly

05-MAY 09-2022

Good morning. People don’t mind inflation when it hits things like assets.  When stocks and home prices are rising, consumers feel wealthier.  This “wealth effect” tends to be beneficial to spending, which then become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The 2009-2020 market rally started with this effect.  The bank bailouts propped up the banks, but didn’t cause inflation on Main Street.  Today, thanks to the stimulus measures during the pandemic, Main Street went on a spending binge.  That’s caused a reverse wealth effect as the prices of goods like food and utilities are rising at a rapid rate — but now asset
