Today marks the latest consumer price index (CPI) report. A rough measure of inflation, the overall level of inflation as well as growth compared to prior months has made for some wild rides during prior releases.
A sizeable bet of expectations could mean that the Fed kicks off its March rate hike with a 0.50 percent move instead of 0.25. But, if inflation comes in under expectations, or if year-over-year growth finally stalls out, it could be a sign that overall inflation rate will start to slow going forward.
Make no mistake – whatever the final number, inflation will likely continue to run at above-average rates for some time, and supply chain disruptions can further wreak havoc on prices over and above any monetary policy. But traders should take their cue from their markets today as to how to trade the start of rate hike season.

Market Liquidity Now Reported To Be “Abysmal”
Liquidity in U.S. stocks has fallen to levels last seen during the COVID-19 selloff two years ago, adding to volatility in an already-nervous market. Market liquidity has been decreasing for years. In recent weeks, however, traders were shocked by massive… [Read Here]
How Inflation Affects Bank Loans
Question of the day: Does a surge in bank lending lead to a surge in inflation? People are looking for the source of recent inflation but it isn’t bank lending or velocity. One key problem is the CPI is a fatally flawed measure of… [Read Here]

Shares of GameStop (GME) are back under $50. For those who bought near the peak, that’s nearly a 90 percent drop. For those who bought near the stock’s 52-week low, that’s still a 10-fold gain. With trading volume on the stock dwindling, it’s possible that the squeeze is over, and that many have already taken profits (or losses).
There’s still some chatter that the short positions held by hedge funds were only covered synthetically, and many retail investors are willing to hold onto their shares indefinitely. While there may be a second bump in shares, most traders looking for a big move have moved on to other names. Now, all that’s left is speculating on casting for the inevitable movie about the time Main Street took on Wall Street at its own game and was winning – until it got shut down.

Silver is a ‘Turbo-Charged Version of Gold’ –Jeffrey Currie, Commodities Chief, Goldman Sachs
“What silver has that gold doesn’t have: It goes into solar panels… you get that added boost that a lot of that spending on silver is going to be green capital expenditures that to into solar panels, and then silver is the biggest benefactor.” [Read More]

Natural gas futures hit an all-time low in Asia, as fears of the coronavirus are likely to impact energy demand there during the Northern hemisphere’s winter season.
That’s bad news for the energy sector, including the U.S.A.
In the past, natural gas could only be shipped by pipeline, but over the past few years the technology to liquefy and send natural gas anywhere in the world via tanker has come into operation. For heavily leveraged American energy companies hoping for foreign demand, this is one more troubling sign for the shale space this year.

Time … 5 Ways You May be Wasting Yours!
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard someone say — or even said myself — that they “wish there were more hours in a day,” I’d probably have enough money to buy a car … a clunker … but the point is that this is something you and I probably hear (and say) fairly regularly.
Let’s face it, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. And while this wish for more time is somewhat a figure of speech, most of us find that it’s a race against the clock (better said, a race against one complete rotation of the earth) to get everything done that we want to each day.
But what if we didn’t need more time … what if we just needed to make better use of the time we had? The truth is that most of us are “leaking” time each day on things that really don’t matter. That’s a nice way of saying that at some point during the day, most people are wasting time.
Here are 5 common time vampires sucking this precious resource from you.
Checking email. Over … and over. Do you check your email routinely throughout the day? Worse, do you keep your email browser open and feel summoned by every “ding” you hear? Email is a huge distraction, taking your time and focus away from the things that really count. Try cutting back your email time to three times, twice, or even once a day.
Watching TV. The average person spends about 35 hours watching TV a week. That’s insane. It’s basically a full-time job. We’re not saying to get rid of TV. We’re just saying that there’s probably a better way (or 20) to spend at least a fraction of that time.
Gossiping. Not only is it an utter waste of time, gossiping is negative, sucking time, energy, and life out of you — and whoever else is involved in the useless banter. Use that time to practice gratitude, meditate, write a note to someone, or have a meaningful conversation with a friend.
Not having a to-do list. If you’re going to protect your time, use it productively, and win the day, you need to have a game plan that emphasizes your top priorities (those things that are urgent and important). Sure, there’s a good chance things may not go exactly according to plan, and you need to be flexible to a degree; but you’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
Social media. While social media isn’t inherently bad, when you’re spending 2 – 9 hours on it a day like most people are, that’s too much valuable time that’s being wasted. Don’t believe you’re leaking that much time to the social media vampires? Use an app like Pyxsee to track your social media use (and even set limits on how much time you do spend); you’ll be surprised.
To the value of time! 😉
